Here at Paws for
Thought, we are avid supporters of animal rescues, shelters and
caretakers. We recently became aware of the Baja Animal Sanctuary (www.BajaAnimalSanctuary.org), the only no-kill shelter in Northern
Mexico. The Sanctuary is located in Rosarito, Mexico, just 22 miles
south of the San Ysidro border. It was founded by Sunny Benedict, a
native New Yorker, and a former real estate agent in Rosarito. From her
office window, Sunny would see the local animals, mangy, starving, and
roaming the streets in search of anyone who might toss them a morsel of
food, or give them a kind pat on the head. She knew she had to do
something. With a mere $180.00 she gathered from friends, she turned her
dream into reality and started the Baja Animal Sanctuary.
BAS provides a safe haven for dogs, cats, and presently, two beautiful
horses. Rescued from the streets of Mexico, they now receive food,
medical care, and love for the rest of their lives. Once the puppies are
old enough, or the sick ones are well enough they are all spayed or
neutered. Their ultimate goal is to find each and every one of them a
forever home. When this can't be accomplished, since they are a no-kill
shelter, the animals that are "un-adoptable" will make BAS their
permanent home.
So we sent Amanda, the marketing coordinator at Paws for Thought, down
to Rosarito with Booster Baths packed into her SUV! The owners were
thrilled by the donation of two Baths and a Booster Ramp, to help the
older and larger dogs into the tub. The first lucky recipient of a
Booster Bath washing was Jason (named as such because he had arrived at
BAS on Friday, the 13th), a Golden Retriever mix. Amanda and a volunteer
demonstrated how to use the tub for the other volunteers on the
premises.
We were absolutely amazed at the facilities, which currently house over
THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY animals! The founder, Sunny, gave us a tour of
the Sanctuary, and it is quite apparent that the animals here are very
well loved and well cared for.
And with their new Booster Baths, they will be cleaner, healthier, and
more adoptable than ever!
The Sanctuary operates entirely on donations, and could always benefit
from your contributions, however large or small.
Please visit their website,
www. BajaAnimalSanctuary.org, to learn more or donate.
And of course, be sure to check out the pictures we took while we were
there!

Pet Network is a dog rescue group that had
been using a Booster Bath for 10 years. Before contacting Paws For
Thought, Pet Network's one Booster Bath washed over 2,000 rescued dogs.
Paws For Thought felt Pet Network deserved another Booster Bath and
recently donated a new tub to their organization. Dana Kuo,
president of Pet Network had this to say about the famous Booster Bath,
"We love Booster Bath! It's not too high for a dog to jump into and not
too low that we have to bend our old backs. It's light enough to move
to a shady place in the yard and the legs are set wide enough that when
a big dog shakes the tub does not move. Thanks to BOOSTER BATH, Pet
Network's rescue dogs can now look pretty and clean and get ready for
their new forever homes."

For Thought®
recently teamed up with The Quigley House,
the Domestic Violence Center for Clay
County, Florida.
This woman's shelter
is
one of a very few of
its kind in the country inviting
battered women to stay with their animals at Quigley House's
facilities. The Quigley House has accommodations for their guests'
animals that include a ten run dog kennel with watering system featuring
a Booster Bath®
for easy bathing, a climate controlled 10 x 16 feline house, and
furniture for the animals. Sharon Youngerman, executive director for
the Quigley House is thrilled to have a dog washing system in house that
is both easy to use and attractive. "For
years Quigley House has received calls from abused women who need a safe
place to go. However, like most DV shelters we weren’t able to
accommodate their pets. So, instead of leaving their beloved pets in
harms way, the victims stayed in the abusive situation. Quigley
House is working to change that. Now the 'entire' family can find safe
shelter from abuse. While they are staying with us out of harms way,
we want them to feel at home. Thanks to Booster Bath the dogs will be
both safe and clean. Thank you, Booster Bath®."
The Quigley House opened its doors to their residents four legged
friends on April 21, 2008 and was be featured along with all the pet
products donated (including the Booster Bath®)
in the Dog Fancy July 2008 issue.

Paws
for Thought, manufacturer of the Booster Bath recently sponsored dog
washing stations for The Seattle Dog Show. Groomers and pet owners
alike were impressed with the plastic pet bath’s ease of use due to the
bath’s ability to elevate and contain the animal, as well as drain the
water used from the bath. Pam Hollenbeck, an owner of an Australian
Sheepdog that competed in the show was amazed with the whole bathing
experience stating, “I love the 360 degree access I get to my dog. This
takes the work out of bathing!” All were thrilled with the convenience
of being able to wash their dogs at the actual show. The Booster Bath
dog washing station was an obvious enhancement to the show and grooming
area. Tom Godwin, President of the Seattle Kennel Club was more than
happy to partner with Paws for thought for this very reason. Seattle
Kennel Club even made special accommodations for the dog wash area,
making sure a hot water heater was
installed so all dogs could
experience a warm bath. “Booster Bath has been an important
accommodation to the exhibitors, as all dogs are in need of looking
their best. The addition of bathing stations here at our show has been
a major enhancement.” Godwin went on the state that all Kennel Clubs
hosting major shows should consider partnering with Paws for Thought and
their bathing stations
because it opens the door for more hotel affiliation. “Most hotels
don’t want dogs in their facilities because they are concerned about
groomers bathing these dogs in hotel rooms. Hotels in general will open
their doors to dogs and their owners if they know washing stations are
being provided.” Paws for Thought donated four Booster Baths to be used
throughout the duration of the event and then raffled off at the close.
The baths proved to be a very popular prize and helped the increase of
raffle ticket sales for The Seattle Dog Show.

Grateful Goldens Rescue is a non-profit
organization that helps foster and home abandoned, abused, and unwanted
Golden Retrievers in the Charleston, South Carolina, Low County, and
Coastal Geria areas including Savannah GA. They first foster
Golden Retrievers in a home environment to make sure the dogs are
brought back to optimal physical and mental health. Then each
Golden is found a loving permanent home. Judy Muller a
representative of Grateful Goldens expressed her sincere love of the
product when Paws For Thought donated a new Booster Bath to the
organization. She states, "I have got to tell you what a great
product the Booster Bath is! I assembled it without help, it is a
quality made item and very sturdy. Gladys the Golden jumped up in it as
soon as it was together and I think she would
have stayed there all day! Everything you need is right there at waist
height and for anyone that has any sort of a back or leg issues - this
is a must have item. I loved using it... such a great item for our
rescue. Believe me some of these dogs come in and they have never been
bathed in their life and so much easier to do it with Booster Bath and
out of doors! Thank you for your support of Grateful Goldens."
